About cable glands:
Cable glands (also known as cord grips or strain reliefs) are mechanical entry devices used to secure, seal, and protect the end of a cable as it enters an electrical enclosure or equipment. They act as a critical bridge between the cable and the housing.

Core Functions

  • Environmental Sealing: They form a tight, weatherproof seal to keep out dust, moisture, and hazardous contaminants.
  • Strain Relief: They prevent the cable from being pulled, twisted, or kinked, which protects the inner conductors from damage.
  • Holding Force: They grip the outer sheath to provide strong pull-out resistance.
  • Earthing and Grounding: For armored cables, metallic glands provide a safe, continuous electrical path to ground the armor/shield to the equipment.

Common Types

  • Armored Cable Glands: Specifically designed for cables with steel wire armor (SWA) or braided shielding to clamp the armor and provide earth continuity.
  • Unarmored Cable Glands: Designed for standard, flexible, or unarmored cables, relying on a compression seal to grip the outer jacket.
  • Hazardous Area (Ex) Glands: Precision-engineered glands for explosive or volatile environments (e.g., oil rigs, chemical plants) featuring explosion-proof seals and barrier compounds
